I wrote a blog last year about “The Fourth Turning, a crucial season of change that arises in America every 80 years or so that sets the course for the decades to come. This amazing historical pattern was first identified by Neil Howe and William Strauss, and explained in their seminal book by the same name, published in 1996. When I wrote the blog, Trump was still president and the COVID-19 Pandemic had just arrived, throwing the world into chaos. I framed Trump as the leader who would bring us through this tumultuous time, much as Washington did in the American Revolution, Lincoln did in the Civil War, and FDR did in World War 2. At the time, I envisioned Trump cruising to a re-election and serving out a strong second term as he rose to lead through the rough waters and into a positive future. Here is a drop quote from my previous blog:

“History warns that a Crisis will reshape the basic social and economic environment that you now take for granted. The Fourth Turning necessitates the death and rebirth of the social order. I went on to write:

“It seems clear now that the Covid-19 Pandemic is the Crisis we have been long expecting during this Fourth Turning, and Donald Trump is the “Gray Champion,” the wise prophet who will lead us through it and point the way in the “rebuilding” project that takes place in the years that follow this crisis. Neil Howe describes this season with the following words:

“Real hardship will beset the land, with severe distress that could involve questions of class, race, nation, and empire. Yet this time of trouble will bring seeds of social rebirth.”

We are witnessing a crucial page in history, folks. We are coming into a “reset” that will pave the way for revival and restoration.” You can read the whole blog HERE.

That was 19 months ago, and it has turned out to be a chillingly true, moreso than I would have even thought when I wrote it.
